Completed Projects — Water Distribution System

PROJECT: LAKE TAGHKANIC STATE PARK WATER SYSTEM IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
OWNER: NYS OFFICE OF PARKS AND HISTORIC PRESERVATION
ENGINEER: CRAWFORD AND ASSOCIATES
LOCATION: LAKE TAGHKANIC STATE PARK
VALUE: $983,246.00

SCOPE OF WORK:
  • Project involved abandonment of the existing water distribution system and treatment plants and installing new HDPE water lines throughout the entire park with a new water treatment plant and new 400 sq. ft. building to accommodate the new treatment equipment.
  • First stage of project involved land clearing and site work to prepare for building and waterline installation. Building was a poured concrete structure and faced with a natural stone veneer. This stone was located throughout the site and used so it would match existing west beach house.
  • The new treatment plant supplied by Osmonics was a reverse osmosis system, two units were installed along with a sand filter, turbidity meters, air compressor, eye wash station etc. Allen marine services were used to install the intake line in the lake using special underwater gear and to film the location. This would supply new system with water.
  • Second stage of project involved excavation and backfill of 4” diameter HDPE pipe installed where existing lines were. A total length of 21,000 ft. of pipe was replaced with new. Our crew received special training and certification in butt-fusion welding technology for this project.
  • Suction pumps located in the treatment plant building were used to draw water from the lake and send it through the treatment plant. From there it was pumped up to two existing water towers located on the east and west end of the park. Booster pumps were installed to help reach it destination. Water was then distributed from there throughout the park.
  • New 1” HDPE service lines were installed from new water main to all cabins, camp sites and bath houses.
  • Upon completion, Osmonics representatives came for startup of system and training of Park employees for one week.
  • Deadline to complete was 1 year which was met including a shut down of project during seasonal operations from Memorial day to Labor day.
